Annette Barcelo is a Swiss artist known for her evocative and symbolic visual language that explores themes of life, death, and transformation. Over a career spanning more than five decades, she has worked across a variety of media, including painting, drawing, printmaking, and reverse glass painting.
Her practice is rich with personal mythology and often features mystical figures, hybrid creatures, and symbolic female forms. Her work delves into existential questions and the cyclical nature of life, frequently reflecting feminist perspectives and challenging traditional, patriarchal norms within the art world.
Annette Barcelo was born in Basel in 1943, where she lives and works.
